Cable Lock Foundation Repair
Keeping it level : 5 years

Most cities present business owners with unique obstacles to achieving their goals. Whether it’s bureaucratic red tape or finding qualified employees, it seems there is always something to problem solve. For Paul Knight, the owner and president of Cable Lock Foundation Repair, New Orleans offered him the perfect opportunity to prove he’s the best in the business.
With the Greater New Orleans area located below sea level, Knight’s business, Cable Lock Foundation Repair, is charged with keeping everything on level ground. The company specializes in driving piles under existing structures, such as a house or an apartment building, to stabilize them and prevent settlement. Its clients are generally homeowners who want a quality job and excellent customer service.
Knight worked with his family in its engineering firm in the Houston area. His older brother, David Knight who served as the lead civil engineer, committed much of his time, skill and energy to solving foundation problems. After a decade of hard work, he invented the patented Cable Lock system for driving piles. Knight sold part of the rights of his invention to a contractor in Houston who has since expanded to Dallas and out of state. It’s the same system that Paul Knight’s company uses, with Knight’s focus on southern Louisiana.
Why southern Louisiana? Without hesitation, Knight answers, “I came to New Orleans for two reasons. First, it’s a very challenging environment. For example, in Houston, we may drive piles 20 feet into fairly firm soil. But in New Orleans, you’re driving piles 90 feet just through mud. It’s an extremely difficult environment, and the problems can be extreme, too. Second, no one else wanted to tackle it.
“The big challenge for us was, can we do it and offer a warranty?” he continues. “I didn’t want to do it if I couldn’t offer a warranty to our customers.” Using his brother’s patented system, Knight was able to offer a lifetime warranty for the piles. As far as he knows, no other local foundation repair company had successfully offered such reassurance as a standard procedure.
He says Cable Lock Foundation Repair stands out from other companies in many ways. “Certainly, the patented Cable Lock piling system has advantages, but even more importantly than that, we have the experience. We know what it takes to offer a warranty,” Knight says.
The company and its approximately 100 employees will celebrate its 5th year of operation in 2001. It was incorporated in February 1997 and started production in July 1997. His brother, who is a 50-percent shareholder, adds his many years of experience and service to what has become another successful family enterprise.
Knight says his business philosophy is to be the best at offering a service to the community that tackles a common, albeit difficult, problem. “There are other foundation repair companies that people will find to be cheaper, or even more expensive,” Knight says. “We try to be fair in our pricing and do not settle for anything but the best in service.”
For those potential customers unsure of which company to hire for foundation problems, Knight has some simple advice. “Shop around and compare,” he suggests. With the company’s competitive strengths, he says he’s sure Cable Lock will be at the top of a customer’s bid list.
Cable Lock Foundation Repair is conveniently located at 1919 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Ste. 201 and can be reached at (504) 828-2223. A second location in Baton Rouge serves the Lafayette area.
